23rd Annual Community Improvement Day

For over eight months each year, DCBIA Community Services Committee members work closely with DC stakeholders and community leaders to plan and design construction improvements which culminate with hundreds of volunteers creating or renovating a DC community asset on one Saturday in September.

: This year, DCBIA will gather volunteers and supporters to transform a 3-acre vacant lot (owned by DCHA) in Ward 7 to become DC’s largest-scale urban farm -- a portable, highly-functional and beautiful community asset. The farm will be temporary and UDC will maintain, operate and program the site for approximately three years.

East Capitol Urban Farm (Ward 7)
5900 E. Capitol Street, SE
Washington, DC 20019

Saturday, September 26, 2015
7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Through community engagement and in partnership with many local and federal agencies, and public and private organizations, the concept for the farm grew in scope and size to become a multi-functional community asset, including: urban farming with a special emphasis on diverse, biointensive, niche crops, a farmers market, food truck, public art, nature discovery space for kids, a community garden, pollinator gardens, interpretive trails, rain gardens and other environmental practices.
